A specimen is secured to a scotch yoke drive system; draped over a hex bar and a weight affixed to the bottom of the specimen. Abrasion resistance is measured by subjecting to unidirectional reciprocal rubbing over the hexagon bar. Taber's Model 5820 Webbing Abrasion Tester is used to determine abrasion resistance of automotive seat belts and other webbing materials.
|Instrument||The Webbing Abrasion Tester is used to evaluate abrasion resistance properties of seat belts and other webbing products (e.g. safety straps, tie-downs, harnesses, helmet straps, etc). Common types of materials that can be tested with this instrument include nylon, polyester, leather, polymers, and other flexible sheet materials.|
